Honest Cycling Gear Reviews for UK Riders
Your legs might be the engine, but your feet are the gearbox — and a soggy, flexy gearbox wastes watts you’ve already paid for in pain. That’s the whole argument for stiff carbon sole road shoes for racing: a rigid platform stops your foot rolling and flexing mid-stroke, so more of what your quads produce … Read more
Swap a flexy nylon-soled shoe for a pair of carbon sole road cycling shoes and the difference arrives somewhere between “huh” and “oh”. You mash the pedals on a familiar climb and the bike simply goes, with none of that faint, spongy delay you didn’t know you’d been putting up with for years. A carbon … Read more
There’s a very specific kind of misery reserved for cyclists fumbling with sweat-slicked Velcro straps at a red light, one shoe half-done, traffic building behind them. If you’ve been there, you already understand the appeal of a dial. A budget BOA road shoe uses a small mechanical dial, a steel lace and a set of … Read more
Somewhere between your first proper club run and the moment you realise your toes have gone numb on a three-hour sportive, you start paying attention to how your shoes actually close. BOA dial road cycling shoes solve a problem that Velcro straps and laces have quietly tolerated for decades: uneven pressure. A dial-and-cable system distributes … Read more

Let’s get one thing out of the way: budget clipless road shoes are simply road cycling shoes built to work with a clipless pedal system — the ones where a cleat on the sole locks into the pedal — priced to suit riders who don’t want to remortgage the house for a pair of size … Read more
There’s a particular sound every roadie remembers from their first proper ride: the click of a cleat locking into a pedal, followed immediately by the wobbly, heart-in-mouth realisation that your feet are now, for better or worse, part of the bike. Clipless road cycling shoes are the stiff-soled, cleat-compatible footwear that make that click possible … Read more
Your feet touch your bike in exactly two places, and unlike your saddle, nobody talks about them at the pub after a ride. That’s a shame, because a poor pair of shoes can quietly sabotage an otherwise great bike. So what are road bike shoes, really? They’re stiff-soled, clip-in footwear designed to bolt your foot … Read more
Somewhere around mile eight of a January club run, your toes stop being toes and start being a distant, throbbing rumour. That’s the exact moment most British cyclists start Googling for the best neoprene overshoes, usually one-handed, usually while still riding. Neoprene overshoes are close-fitting covers, typically 2-4mm thick, made from the same rubbery, air-bubble-laden … Read more
